Your Body Is Fucking Incredible, Love Her Everyday!

30 April, 2019

To support Mental Health Awareness Week we have spoken to our team, teachers and partners to find out how they maintain a healthy body image. Click here to learn more about Mental Health Awareness Week.

How do you connect to your body on a daily basis?
Millie: I get on the yoga mat and tune in. My style of yoga is evolving into an intuitive practice of moving poses that feel good and what my body is asking for, rather than following a set sequence. I finish my practice with a seated meditation, using the breath to anchor into my body and the present moment.

Can you describe what the mind-body connection means for you?
Millie: It means honouring my light and dark. Being conscious of every part of me physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and energetically. Being open and aware that everything is connected and knowing when to bring myself back to balance.

How has your own acceptance with body image evolved since you started teaching (and/or) practising?
Millie: I believe it’s constant acceptance and letting go, a constant practice to feel comfortable in your body. Whether that is what you look like on the outside to the world or accepting how you feel on the inside too.

What's something you'd like to tell your younger self about body image?
Millie: Your body is fucking incredible, love her everyday.

What would your advice be to someone who might be struggling today with their mind or body?
Millie: You are not alone. Talk about it...write, paint, dance about it! Be kind to yourself, as you are doing brilliantly. Find a community that will hold you when you need it and give to those who are struggling on their journey too.

Do you have any body image fundamental principles and/ or affirmations you'd like to share?
Millie: To be thankful. Gratitude that your body and mind have got you this far! Even when we feel at our worst -it’s our beautiful body expressing an imbalance, so we have to be still and open to receive the message, hear it, be grateful for it and then find modalities to help heal it.
