What to do before and after a Tarot Reading (or Tarot Aftercare)
You have just booked your first Tarot Reading Class at Re:Mind, or perhaps even your first private reading with us. You are now asking yourself, how can I prepare? What can I expect, and what do I do afterwards if I feel a bit lost or want to know more?
Grappling with the intricacies of the tarot can be challenging; after all, what do all of these images and messages even mean? Do not worry; we’ve got you. When you attend a session with us, the practitioner will always explain.
Below, we outline some suggestions for how you can prepare, what you can expect from a group class or private session and what to do afterwards to look after yourself.
Over the last few decades, using tarot cards for looking inward and trying to catch glimpses of potential futures has become increasingly popular. Who doesn’t want to know what is around the corner?
The origin of Tarot cards is disputed; however, the use of divination instruments such as runes, oracle bones, tea leaves, pendulums, and tarot cards for spiritual guidance and insight has been around since time immemorial.
Historically, it was primarily professional Tarot Readers who used the deck, whilst it has become much more commonplace that if you open up the drawer of a 20-30-something person, you will find a Tarot deck.
The Tarot can be used in many different ways. Some people use them to help access guidance from within and beyond, while others use them to glean potential information about the future.
Receiving a Tarot reading is a golden opportunity for personal and spiritual growth. At the same time, it is essential to remember that energy is constantly in flux and changes depending on your choices and those around you. Always remember that you have options, regardless of what emerges from a reading.
How can I prepare for a private Tarot reading?
Attending a group class is different to receiving a private reading. In a studio class environment, the message you receive will apply to you; at the same time, it will be more generic and most likely apply to several people in the room. The genericness of the message is by design because we believe spirit brought this exact group of people together to receive all of the messages.
In a private reading, it is all about you and your life.
Before attending a private reading, it is helpful to set an intention and share this with the practitioner delivering the reading if you have one. You can also keep it open and see what the practitioner reveals in conjunction with yourself.
Before booking in, ensure that you are in a good mental state and keep in mind that you always have free will.
A good tarot reader will never reveal anything “bad”; if a challenge arises in the spread, they will help you navigate that situation.
Finally, bring your journal with you so that you can take notes.
How can I prepare for a Tarot reading class?
When you decide to attend a class, there is most likely a reason, an intention, or a question within your mind that you want some guidance on. As you come to class, keep this intention in mind. That will help focus the practitioner's energy in on that question. At the same time, if you don’t feel your reason for coming was answered by your specific reading, listen in on the readings of others in the room. It is highly likely that your question will be answered at some point during the class.
If you don’t have an intention or question, you can, for example, go in with the question, “What do I need to hear right now to live from my highest self?” or just keep it entirely open and see what emerges.
If you find that none of the guidance you received throughout the class resonates, please reach out so we can dig a bit deeper with you. We are always happy to help.
Importantly, bring your journal with you so that you can take notes.
I have just had a private Tarot reading or attended a group class; what do I do now?
You are leaving your private session or class, perhaps feeling a bit emotional and that some energies have shifted within you. We always say, please do not make any life-altering decisions just after your reading. Sit with it for a bit, and then start to consider your next steps.
Below are some helpful suggestions.
Integrate with journaling.
Take some time to integrate all the information you received after reading. If you bring your journal with you, write down your freshest thoughts and feelings and create a list of the decisions you will make following the reading and what you will let be.
Stick around for some tea.
We always encourage everyone to stick around with some tea so that you extend your integration phase before getting back into “normal” life. It is so important to leave some time for integration over rushing back into the busy streets of London. Otherwise, you might not reap the full benefits of the experience.
Feeling dazed for 15-20 minutes after the session is entirely normal, as it also includes energy healing.
Make an action plan.
With actionable steps, often, more gets done. After your reading, you should take some time to outline with specific steps what you will do following the reading.
If you are into it, make sure you make your goals SMART so that you can easily track your progress.
Nourish yourself with water and wholesome food.
Nourishing ourselves is so important, especially after energy work, which a reading also is. Drink plenty of water and eat food that feels grounding and nutritious.
Ground, cleanse and close.
The practitioner will ground, cleanse and close following the reading. However, you can do some of your own.
Thank the guides.
Spray yourself with an aura spray.
Wrap yourself in a violet mist.
Close down your chakras.
Please feel free to ask if anything during your reading needs to be clarified. Most practitioners will stick around if you have any more questions.
You can attend our Tarot Reading + Energy Healing class every Sunday at 9.30 AM and book a private reading by emailing us.
